The Federal Quarters & COVID-19, Corona Virus

The health and safety of our Guests at The Federal Quarters is our highest priority as we battle the Covid-19 pandemic. Cleaning and disinfecting the property effectively requires extra stringent measures, specific training, appropriate supplies, and a systematic process.

In response, The Federal Quarters has augmented our regular cleaning process to include rigorous sanitation and disinfection protocols.

Disclaimer: These guidelines are derived in part from federal agency regulations and recommendations, but they do not constitute legal or medical advice, nor do they necessarily consider the various requirements of all states, counties, and municipalities. The Federal Quarters makes no warranty or representation that following these guidelines will ensure the health of employees, clients, guests, or others, or preclude the possibility of contamination. These guidelines were prepared based on available information existing at the time of publication and therefore may be superseded by later developments.

COVID-19, Disinfection, and Sanitization

To date, according to the World Health Organization, small viral particles can hang in the air for several hours. Respiratory droplets, heavier than smaller aerosol particles, linger in the air for a longer time. According to a recent study published in The New England Journal of Medicine, the COVID-19 virus can survive up to three days on hard metal surfaces and plastic and up to 24 hours on cardboard. During that window of time, the virus does begin to weaken.

  • Our cleaning staff and employees wait for the majority of airborne droplets to settle (at least 3 hours) after the departure of overnight Guests before beginning the cleaning and disinfecting process. We require a period of at least 48 hours to expire between the last Guest exiting the property and next Guest entering in order to complete the full cleaning and disinfecting process.

  • The cleaning staff are required to use the appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE), including masks, disposable gloves, and, when using the disinfecting fogger, splash goggles. A mask that covers the nose and mouth and creates a good seal against the face is required for any entry to the property within the 3-hour time frame for respiratory droplet settling.

  • All dirty surfaces are cleaned prior to disinfection.

  • The Federal Quarters uses disinfecting products including soft surface foggers to maximize the effectiveness of the disinfection process.

Cleaning is defined by the CDC as “the removal of germs, dirt, and impurities from surfaces. It does not kill germs, but by removing them, it lowers their numbers and the risk of spreading infection.” Sanitizing refers to reducing the number of germs to a safe level by cleaning. Disinfecting refers to killing germs.

NOTE: Within the constraints imposed by these cleaning and disinfecting protocols and the resulting 48-hour period between Guests, if possible, The Federal Quarters will make every effort to accommodate a request for early check-ins and late check-outs.

Special Maintenance Requests

Should special maintenance be required during a Guest’s visit, and prior to the check-out date, please call the Proprietors to state the nature of the issue. For the safety of our Guests and Staff, we will dispatch a maintenance technician or third-party vendor only if the issue is truly something that needs to be handled immediately, while the Guests are still in residence. We discourage the entry of maintenance technicians or third-party vendors when Guests are present, and we strongly recommend that all Guests vacate the property for the maintenance tech to enter. Non-essential visits will be severely limited. Technicians will always wear gloves and masks, disposing of those properly, and off property, after exiting.

Owner & Guest Cleaning Policy

We request that Guests leave the property in good order, as it was upon their arrival. Guests are invited to use the laundry and dishwasher during their stay. On departure, used linens and towels should be placed in the hampers located in the Hamilton Bathroom and the Scott Bedroom. Please rinse and put all dirty dishes in the dishwasher. Pots and pans should be hand washed and left on the counter. The Staff will follow-up and attend to the laundry, dishwasher, appliances, and the pots and pans.

We take the threat of this contagion seriously and hope that our efforts to make The Federal Quarters as safe as possible will give you the peace of mind to thoroughly enjoy your vacation experience!
